STS Initiative

STS Initiative is a community project that promotes and supports social initiatives focused on education, pro-environmental practices, the preservation of Afro-descendant and indigenous identity and culture, as well as the empowerment of children, adolescents, and youth.

It was founded on the 12 of May 2012 by Shayron Tower with the name STS Productions. Initially, it supported the creation of graphic content for cultural and youth organizations events. However, in 2019, its name was changed to STS Initiative to align with its current values and objectives.

Over the past ten years, the STS Initiative has accompanied and supported initiatives for the youth of Corn Island, executed by the now-defunct Municipal Council of Adolescents and Youth and the Murales RACCS Foundation.

Between 2015 and 2017, STS Initiative sponsored the local TV program Juventud al Aire, which was led by Shayron Tower in his role as the president of the Municipal Council of Adolescents and Youth of Corn Island.

Through the STS Initiative, the Digital Newspaper Nicaragua Ahora was founded in April 2017. It provided a platform for students in the field of Social Communication at the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua, UNAN León, to share their news articles produced during their Written Press class.

In 2021, the name of the newspaper was changed to Diario La Metrópolis, and it continued to be supplied by students, primarily covering social topics related to the Caribbean Coast.

In August 2021, STS Initiative founded The Corn Islands Virtual Library, a project aimed at preserving the identity and culture of the Corn Islands through the compilation of books and scientific research, as well as collaboration with local historians.

The project was officially launched on the 1 of May 2023, and it serves as an educational tool for students on Great Corn Island and Little Corn Island in their academic research, particularly for monographic works related to the history of the islands.

In February 2023, STS Initiative launched the digital campaign Corn Island Área Protegida Libre de Plástico to raise awareness about the importance of implementing actions that promote the protection and conservation of Corn Island's natural resources. This initiative followed the declaration of the islands as a protected area and the ban on plastic containers imposed by the authorities in 2021 and 2022, respectively.

STS Initiative aims to contribute its share to the numerous initiatives striving to make the world a better place and inspire others to contribute to social development.
